We would like to congratulate six newspapers who have recently been recognized for their Web sites by their press associations.

Georgia Press Association

In June, 2008, the Georgia Press Association announced 2008 Better Newspaper Contest Award winners at their annual convention in Panama City Beach, Ga.

In the category of Newspaper Web Site, judges recognized The News Observer.

The News Observer was awarded first place for weekly newspapers.

Located in Blue Ridge, the newspaper is owned by Community Newspapers (CNI). This weekly has a circulation of 9,020 and can be viewed at www.thenewsobserver.com.

Florida Press Association

Also in June, the Florida Press Association announced 2007 Better WeeklyNewspaper Contest Award winners at their annual convention in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

In the category of Newspaper Web Site Development, judges recognized The Independent Florida Alligator, The Beaches Leader and The West Orange Times.

The Independent Florida Alligator was awarded first place in Division A for newspapers with a circulation over 15,000.

Located in Gainesville, the newspaper is owned by Campus Communication. This daily has a circulation of 35,000 and can be viewed at www.alligator.org.

The Beaches Leader was awarded first place in Division B for newspapers with a circulation between 7,000 and 15,000.

Located in Jacksonville, the newspaper is owned by Community Newspapers (CNI). This weekly’s umbrella Web site can be viewed at www.beachesleader.com.

The West Orange Times was awarded third place in Division B.

Located in Winter Garden,this weekly has a circulation of 9,250. Its Web site is currently in the process of a redesign and can be viewed at

www.westorangetimes.com.

North Dakota Newspaper Association

The North Dakota Newspaper Association announced 2008 Better Newspaper Contest Award winners at their annual convention in Dickinson, N.D., in May 2008.

In the category of Best Web Site, judges from South Dakota recognized The Williston Herald and Bismarck Tribune.

The Williston Herald was awarded third place for newspapers with a circulation of 12,000 or less.

Located in Williston, the newspaper is owned by Wick Communications. This daily has a circulation of 4,919 and can be viewed at www.willistonherald.com. It is currently in the process of a site redesign.

The Bismarck Tribune was awarded first place for newspapers with a circulation of 12,001 or more. Recognition was given to Rod Austin and his online team.

Located in Bismarck, the newspaper is owned by Lee Enterprises. This daily has a circulation of 27,548 and can be viewed at www.bismarcktribune.com.
