New "File" asset type

In this week's release we are adding a new asset type—called the "File" asset—which helps streamline workflows and reduces complexity for users in the future.

This new asset type will accept the following binary files:

Types of files accepted by the file asset

The File asset will allow the following file types:

File extension / asset subtype MIME type
zip application/zip, application/x-zip
pdf application/pdf
swf application/x-shockwave-flash
doc application/msword
docx application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document
xls application/vnd.ms-excel
xlsx application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet
ppt application/vnd.ms-powerpoint
pptx application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.presentationml.presentation

Some of these already exist in BLOX CMS as separate file types, but in a future release will be migrated over to this new File asset.

Using the new File asset, query rules can still be created to reference specific subtypes, such as PDFs or PPTs. When creating block query rules, simply use the "asset subtype" field to add the desired targeted subtype.

In the future, after we migrate these existing assets over to the new File asset, specific queries for something like "PDF" assets will automatically translate to using subtypes.

The File asset can also be pulled inline in an article using the Article Designer. It has the standard inline display options, plus a "download" display.
